Alliance Française de Dhaka
On the occasion of the International Francophonie Festival, last Friday 10th, and Saturday 11th of March 2023 Alliance Française de Dhaka organized a theater and dance performance titled ‘Je suis Frederick Douglass’. This dance-drama starring Modibo Konate was held in the auditorium of Alliance Française de Dhaka.
The International Organization of Francophonie was formed in 1970 to establish harmony between Francophonie countries. Around 320 million people around the world speak French. It is used as the national language of 32 countries. Francophonie representative countries of Bangladesh are France, Algeria, Canada, Egypt, Kosovo, Morocco, Switzerland, and Vietnam.
‘Je suis Frederick Douglass’ is a theatre and dance performance by the Baroda Company adapted from the book ‘Je suis Frederick Douglass’, an autobiography of a slave named Frederick Douglass by Jean-Louis Sagot-Duvauroux. Modibo Konate is a young dancer and actor from Bamako, Mali who, after reading the powerful testimony of the book, moved by compassion, immediately decided to stage it. The show was produced in Mali. The reserved text is selected for the adaptation’s nine dramatic scenes.
