Invisible Stories
By Laurie Cannac and a team of Bangladeshi artists
French puppeteer and director Laurie Cannac, who previously performed several times in Dhaka, has been very inspired by bangladeshi bhut stories for their weird aspects and deep meanings. Created with a wonderfull bangladeshi artistic and technical team, this shows is her tribute to the accuracy of popular wisdom of Bangladesh towards respect to nature, in an ecological tale enlightened by the liveliness, the optimism and deepness of bangladeshi people.
Two scientists, studying the impact of ghosts on everyday life in Dhaka, are well mastering their subject. Until the moment when their subject begins to master them, and throws them into a fantastic trip that will lead them to meet wilderness and wisdom of Sundarbans.
Bangladesh, a country impacted by historical events like the partition of 1947 and the war of 1971, possesses a rich thousand-year-old history that explores the connection between humans and the mystical realm. This heritage is preserved through oral traditions which reflect the present world, historical disruptions, and the fragile unity of Bengali culture.
In her immersive experience in Bangladesh, including workshops, meetings, and the Faim de loup show, Laurie Cannac encountered Bangladeshi stories and artists, deeply moved by their resilient positivity. Inspired by this, she aims to showcase their vitality, humor, and adaptability in a unique production called Invisible Stories. Drawing from the diverse oral traditions that encompass all religious communities, ghost stories, and other supernatural elements, Laurie has formed a team of three versatile actors-dancers-singers to create this multidisciplinary project.
Through a collection of traditional Bengali ghost stories, the artists will reimagine Dhaka, their city-megalopolis, by submerging it in a surreal and dreamlike world. This creative process aims to find explanations for the city’s challenges, such as its notorious traffic, by attributing them to the rural exodus of tree ghosts. The coexistence of the ancient and modern will be portrayed as walls supported by specialized ectoplasm.
Furthermore, the production will allude to historical ghosts, like ghost trains inspired by the tragic passengers of the 1947 convoys. Additionally, the exploration of personal ghosts, intertwined with Jung’s collective unconscious, will add depth to the relationships between the characters. The technical aspects of the production will emphasize the representation of the invisible through various means, including play, movement, objects, and body puppetry.

The Art of Minimalism: Inside Elise’s Studio Environment
Exhibition Dates: October 25-30
Opening: 6:00 PM, October 25
Alliance Française de Dhaka is delighted to present “Elise’s Diary Pages,” a captivating painting exhibition by Elise, a talented artist whose journey from childhood doodles to intricate artwork has been nothing short of remarkable.
“Elise’s Diary Pages” is a celebration of the interplay between art and science, showcasing the unique perspective of an artist who sees beauty in both the precise world of mathematics and the boundless creativity of visual art.
Join us for the opening on October 25 at 6:00 PM to explore Elise’s fascinating world of patterns, equations, and artistic expression.
As a child, I started drawing, first on skin with henna, then on paper. To overcome the boredom at school, I had fun covering my diaries with drawings. My choice of an academic career somewhat surprised those close to me: doctor in mathematics, I am an assistant professor in an engineering school called ENSTA-Paris. My research focuses on the development of numerical methods to simulate physical phenomena. In short, when I’m not solving a partial differential equation, everything is an excuse to draw, combining various techniques (pencils, inks, oil paint, acrylic, watercolor, pigments, collages, henna, salt dough …).
The link between my two passions? One can see that I like very fine geometric patterns. This link is particularly explicit in the paintings Classroom and Roméo & Juliette – Mathematician Version – which will be exhibited, among others, at the Alliance Française in Dacca.

Introduction to the Piano Recital: “Shadow and Light”
The theme “Shadow and Light” explores the profound contrasts that define our musical and emotional experiences.
Throughout this recital, each work embodies a tension or harmony between dark moments, filled with mystery or melancholy, and bright moments, full of hope and clarity.
This ongoing dialogue between shadow and light reflects the essential duality of life and music, where every nuance finds its expression, from intimate tenderness to dazzling passion. This program explores the powerful and subtle contrasts between shadow and light through a multifaceted musical journey.
Beethoven’s *”Moonlight Sonata”* opens the recital with its melancholic tones and bright flashes, emblematic of the fragile balance between darkness and clarity. Next comes Chopin’s *Barcarolle*, a work bathed in a gentle, floating atmosphere, where light seems to rise from calm waves.
With Liszt’s *Liebestraum*, tenderness and intensity intertwine, painting a love both passionate and serene. Chopin’s *Andante spianato and grande polonaise*, on the other hand, alternates between delicacy and grandeur, illustrating a path from shadow to the radiant light of a triumphant dance. Debussy’s pieces, including *”Les collines d’Anacapri”* and *Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum*, play with Mediterranean light and the vibrant energy of modernity, revealing subtle shades of luminous rhythms and colors. Finally, Bizet’s *Grande valse de concert* concludes this exploration with an explosion of vitality and virtuosity, celebrating light in all its splendor.
Each piece in this program reveals, in its own way, the dialogue between shadow and light, a dynamic that transcends time and style.
🇫🇷
