Biography of Artist
Kamruzzaman Sagar
Kamruzzaman Sagar is a distinguished Bangladeshi printmaker whose work explores the intricate interplay between human and celestial forms through metaphorical representations. With an academic foundation deeply rooted in the arts, he earned his BFA and MFA from the Faculty of Fine Art at Dhaka University.
Sagar’s artistic journey began with his first solo exhibition in 2010 at the Zainul Gallery, Dhaka University. Over the years, he has captivated audiences with subsequent solo exhibitions, including “79 Graphics” at Gallery Keya in 2023 and “The Untold Stories” at Russi Krdobiberov Art Gallery, Bulgaria, in the same year.
His illustrious career spans numerous group exhibitions at prestigious venues such as the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the Russian Culture Center, and international forums in Taiwan, China, and Macedonia. His works have been showcased in globally renowned art biennales and exhibitions, including the Taiwan International Print Biennale, Split Graphic International Graphic Art Biennial, and Art Revolution Taipei, where he has received critical acclaim and multiple awards.
Sagar’s artistic excellence has been recognized through numerous accolades. Internationally, he won the Special Jury Award at the 2024 Taiwan International Print Biennale and the Honorable Mention Diploma Award at the 2021 Yerevan Print Biennale, Armenia. Nationally, he has received the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Grand Award in 2019 and the Kazi Anowar Hossain Memorial Award in 2021.
As a passionate educator, Sagar serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Printmaking at the Faculty of Fine Art, Dhaka University. Beyond academia, his creative contributions are fostered at Studio 182, his personal studio in Dhaka.
Kamruzzaman Sagar’s works are held in significant collections, including the Guanlan Original Print Museum in China, the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and the Art Museum Cluj in Romania. Through his innovative printmaking techniques and commitment to advancing the art form, Sagar continues to inspire and shape the next generation of Bangladeshi artists.
