Rakibul Anwar
Rakibul Anwar (b. 1993, Dhaka) is a visual artist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Anwar investigates how urban and rural environments are affected by construction that errs towards the invasive. His expansive drawings are informed by observations of space, people, structures, found shapes or other subtler things as well as seemingly arbitrary urban planning that continues to alter the cityscape of Dhaka, and its social and common places. Anwar completed his MFA in the Department of Drawing and Painting, Faculty of Fine Art University of Dhaka. His first solo exhibition titled ‘SHONGLOGNO’ was held in 2022, at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka. He was a participating artist in the “Documenta Fifteen” in Kassel, Germany, 2022 as part of the Britto Art Trust. His major exhibition history includes DHAKA ART SUMMIT, Dhaka 2023; ARTISTS MAKE SPACE, Tara Theater and Britto Arts Trust, London, Birmingham, Manchester in UK and Chattogram, Sylhet, Dhaka In Bangladesh; Brihatta HOME ART PROJECT, Bengal Shilpalaya, Dhaka, 2020; contemporary art shows such as EK KODOM, Platform, Dhaka 2020; 21st– 22nd YOUNG ARTISTS Exhibition, 2018-20 and 24th NATIONAL ART Exhibition, 2019 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; 24th– 25th Berger YOUNG PAINTERS Exhibition, 2019-2021 Dhaka et cetera. Anwar received a grant from the British Council, UK, 2022 as well as from Brihatta Art Foundation, Dhaka, 2020. He was one of the finalists for the Samdani Art Award in Dhaka Art Summit, 2023 and received ‘Kazi Abdul Baset Academy Award in 2017 from the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka.
