Exhibition Concept and Theme:

“Hajong” is a powerful visual exploration of an indigenous minority community residing in the north-east of Bangladesh, particularly in Sunamganj, Sylhet, and the Mymensingh division. The Hajong people have a deeply rooted yet often overlooked history, shaped by displacement, marginalization, and cultural resilience.

Once thriving, their numbers dwindled after the Partition of 1947, with many forced to migrate to India. Today, only 16,000 Hajong people remain in Bangladesh, struggling with landlessness, limited access to education, and economic hardship. Most of them work as agricultural laborers, striving to preserve their heritage amid modern challenges.

Objective and Significance:

Through the lens of Mohammd Asadurjaman Aslam Molla, this exhibition presents a visual narrative of the Hajong people’s life, struggle, and cultural elements.

The showcase seeks to:

✅ Raise awareness about the community’s existence and challenges;

✅ Encourage dialogue among artists, critics, and the public;

✅ Highlight indigenous resilience through the power of photography

This exhibition is an invitation to engage, reflect, and connect with a forgotten chapter of Bangladesh’s cultural diversity.

Open to all!
