Debris

Painting Exhibition by Kazi Salauddin Ahmed

17 May – 4 June

La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Dhanmondi

Opening: Saturday, 17 May 2025 at 6 pm

Of Real and Emotional Debris:

The complete eraser of Gaza which was once full of life, the continued miseries of people in Kashmir, or the hopelessness faced by the displaced Rohingyas trying eke out a life in camps in Chattogram, all this jostle the mind as one tries hard to think of the future of the human race. It is also hard to leave behind the legacy of Bangladesh’s multiple failures in sculpting a future. Here the people’s dream for political stability has always remained a chimera. The fall of the repressive regime has certainly made way for all to focus on a future beyond the given structure, but it seems that things keep falling apart and we are only left with emotional debris. I navigate through a landscape where the edifices of our collective dream lie in ruin, hence the title ‘Debris’.

Speech from Director of Alliance française de Dhaka

It is a profound honor to welcome over 60 talented artists to La Galerie for Alliance Française de Dhaka’s special exhibition, Awakening to Sacred Peace: Buddha of Bengal. For the third time, Prachya Chitrakala Anushilon Sangha has undertaken the remarkable task of uniting artists from across Bangladesh, fostering a powerful creative dialogue.

The Buddha, an enduring part of Bangladesh’s rich and diverse heritage, is at the heart of this exhibition. In celebration of Buddha Purnima, the show pays homage to the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha — from his royal beginnings, through his quest for enlightenment, to his final moments. Each artist has sought to capture a sense of sacred peace, translating their personal reflections and spiritual journeys onto the canvas.

The artworks presented here embody the deep respect and devotion that these artists hold for Buddha and his message of inner awakening and peace.
