The exhibition titled River Delta is based on the first phase of a five-year research project on Bangladesh’s rivers conducted by the River and Delta Research Centre. River and Delta Research Center Chairman Mohammad Azaz attended the opening ceremony as the special guest Friday. Six young artists have displayed their artworks highlighting the importance of proper maintenance of water resources in an exhibition under way at the La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka at Dhanmondi in the capital.
Artists, namely Apu Raj Bongshi, Mohosin Kabir, Shimul Datta, Najmun Nahar Keya, Promotesh Das Pulak, and Mohammad Hasanur Rahman are displaying multidisciplinary artworks, including drawings, photographic impressions, installation artworks, kinetic sculptures, soft sculptures, two and three-dimensional sculptures, and cyanotype prints. The exhibition has been curated by Juel A Rob.
The artworks address various themes, including the navigability of rivers, the impact of urbanisation and industrialisation on rivers, the War of Independence and rivers, the future of water and fisheries resources, the geopolitics of transboundary rivers and others.
The exhibition also aims at raising awareness of river encroachment and pollution, preservation of fauna diversity and aquatic life, protection of potable water bodies, river and ocean governance, and others.
