Language plays a vital role in conveying culture, and we aim to explore all facets of the artistic universe of Bangladesh. Various artistic disciplines engage in dialogue with each other, and we want to immerse our students in this cultural immersion by envisioning innovative projects that highlight Bangladeshi artists and the potential for collaboration with artists from other countries, particularly Francophone nations.

This exhibition stands as a significant articulation of contemporary artistic language, bringing together the creative voices of 29 emerging and independent Bangladeshi artists. Each of these artists has already carved a distinct identity within the evolving landscape of contemporary art in Bangladesh.
The exhibition showcases nearly 35 artworks, paintings and sculptures that embody a wide spectrum of mediums, forms, and aesthetic approaches. Each piece represents a unique visual language, a reflection of the artist’s individual perspective, lived experience, and evolving artistic inquiry.
Rooted in themes drawn from Bangladesh’s natural environment, folk traditions, social structures, political narratives, and contemporary realities, the exhibition offers a diverse yet interconnected body of work. Through abstract, semi-abstract, and representational styles, the artists critically engage with the present, offering multiple interpretations and thought-provoking insights.
More than a mere aesthetic presentation, this exhibition invites a deeper encounter—one that fosters a space for introspection and shared dialogue. It aims to create a dynamic relationship between artist and viewer, where meaning is not just observed but discovered and exchanged.

The title “Ten Shades” is a summarized expression of the core concept at the heart of this exhibition. It symbolizes diversity, multiplicity, and the distinct individuality of each artist. The ten participating artists come from varied social, cultural, and psychological backgrounds. Their thoughts, experiences, and artistic practices are different in nature—but it is precisely this diversity that makes their works unique and powerful. The convergence of these diverse perspectives has given rise to a vibrant yet delicately structured artistic framework, where each artist’s voice enters into a profound dialogue with the others.
Overall, the name “Ten Shades” represents not a single color, but rather an inward and outward artistic journey composed of multiple hues, emotions, intentions, and positions.
The exhibition features a wide range of works—abstractions, calligraphy, explorations of the human body in relation to nature, reflections on the passage of time, and more. Artist Sazzadur Rahman Shihan is drawn to abstraction. In his paintings, the disruption and construction of color merge with the subject to spark a kind of revolution of perception. Artist Sheikh Humaira Asfaq is fascinated by the beauty of letters and language. Skilled in crafting words through calligraphic forms, her work prominently features Arabic scripts rendered in a contemporary style. Artist Protyasha Mahmud is inspired by folk traditions. Through bold colors and fluid lines, she reinterprets folk motifs in a modern light, blending heritage with creativity in her visual expressions.

Alliance Française de Dhaka, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Théâtre en tête present “Songs of Hawkers” A Comedy in Three Parts
TEXT AND DIRECTION – Zazie Hayoun
‘Songs of Hawkers’ is a comedic endeavor to highlight the livelihood of the hawkers on the street. They play an essential role in bringing back the humanity to the city. In the chaotic ensemble of city life, the hawkers make life easier for many people with their variety of products and prices cheaper than any supermarket shops. In this theatrical presentation combined with music, dance and puppets, the actors use the technique of Grand Guignol, which is a French form of theatre from the 19th Century.
‘Songs of Hawkers’ tells three stories of hawkers that follow different characters easily recognizable from everyday reality –
The Secret
The Thief Rewarded and
The Competition
With hints of characters from the different hawkers around us, ‘Songs of Hawkers’ intends to pay a tribute to the street walkers, whose relentless chants bring poetry to our daily life.
